Caitlin Cavanagh, LPC

Caitlin Cavanagh is a Licensed Professional Counselor in Virginia who completed her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology in 2009 from James Madison University and received her Master of Arts degree in Community Counseling in 2011 from Marymount University. Caitlin has experience with providing outpatient therapy, Community Based Intervention Services, Intensive In-Home services and case management services in both outpatient and community-based settings in Washington, D.C. and Virginia.

Caitlin works with children (ages 10+), adolescents, young adults and families with a wide variety of clinical issues including ADHD, anger/aggression, anxiety, conflict resolution, depression, family discord, peer relationships, PTSD, self-esteem, self-harm and suicidal ideation.

Caitlin’s professional strengths include: Developing rapport, dependability, honesty, flexibility, kindness, creativity, collaborative problem-solving, and genuine warmth and understanding. Her treatment methods are individualized, evidence-based and specific to client needs. Caitlin’s core theoretical foundation is primarily person-centered as she believes that through developing positive rapport with clients and exhibiting genuine unconditional positive regard in session, clients will recognize that they are capable of reaching their full potential by identifying personalized solutions within themselves to problems they encounter in their daily lives. However, Caitlin also enjoys utilizing strategies from other treatment modalities such as Humanistic Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and will work with you on determining the best course of treatment that will help you successfully achieve your goals.

Caitlin also has 5+ years of experience with providing clinical supervision for counselors looking to obtain their LPC. As a supervisor, she believes that a healthy balance of collaboration, support and constructive feedback are most vital to help a resident in counseling obtain the best and most clinically sound experience on their journey towards licensure.
Caitlin’s personal interests include: Home improvement, spending time with her two daughters and husband, spending time with family, art projects, playing sports, running and exploring new adventures.
