Tina Motley, LCSW & CEO

Tina Motley LCSW is a well respected therapist in the community. Tina’s passion for both EMDR therapy and Jesus drives her commitment to integrating secular methods into Christian counseling to help individuals heal and grow. Currently, Tina is pursuing a PhD in psychology with a focus on behavioral health leadership, further solidifying her expertise in the field. Having obtained her MSW from VCU in 2002, Tina went on to establish Fig Tree, a practice that showcases her leadership skills and dedication to mental health advocacy. Through unwavering commitment to her faith and profession, Tina has been a licensed therapist in Virginia since 2009 and has recently expanded her license to include Florida. Her faith plays a crucial role in her approach to providing compassionate care to her clients, making her an impactful therapist.

Having received extensive training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Tina is a certified and an approved consultant recognized by the international organization of EMDRIA. EMDR is a specific psychodynamic technique used to treat trauma-related disorders like PTSD. Through her work, Tina has witnessed the power of EMDR in helping clients alleviate the impact of traumatic experiences and cultivate a more constructive perspective on their experiences. Recognizing that trauma often leads to dissociation in clients, she incorporates ego state therapy and parts work in her interventions. Additionally, Tina embraces Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) as a tool to equip individuals with the skills needed to regulate emotions, navigate emotional crises, foster mindfulness practices, and develop effective interpersonal skills.

In her role as an EMDR approved consultant, Tina Motley, LCSW provides invaluable support and guidance for therapists who have completed Basic Training in EMDR. She offers both individual and group consultation sessions to help clinicians navigate the complexities of EMDR certification. Through her mentorship, Tina aims to empower fellow therapists to enhance their skills, deepen their understanding of trauma treatment, and ultimately make a positive impact on the lives of their clients.

Continuing her quest for knowledge and growth, Tina has expanded her therapeutic toolkit by training in Brainspotting. This innovative approach has proven to be another valuable resource in aiding clients on their healing journey. Combining her expertise in these diverse modalities with a reliance on the guiding presence of the Lord Jesus Christ, Tina has witnessed profound transformations in her clients at Fig Tree Therapy. Her passion lies in offering hope and inspiration for individuals to break free from dysfunctional patterns and embrace positive change through their interactions with Fig Tree Therapy.

As her career progresses, Tina is shifting her focus toward developing training programs and fostering the growth of the company. She takes great joy in supporting her team members and helping them enhance their professional capabilities, ensuring that they can provide the best possible care to their clients.

During her leisure time, Tina finds pleasure in activities like running, traveling, and seeking out new adventures. These experiences help her recharge and rejuvenate, allowing her to bring a fresh perspective and renewed energy to her work as a therapist and consultant.
