Jacob Lewe, MSW
Under supervision of Tina Motley, LCSW
I hold a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Virginia Tech and a Master of Social Work degree from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). During my internship experience, I worked at University Counseling Services at VCU. Through intensive practice, supervision, and reflection, I have developed a clinical style that is facilitative and inquisitive. I have found the greatest growth in clients comes from their own resources, strengths, and insights. It is my job to help evoke what is already inside the client.
Additionally, I have committed myself to evidence based practice through Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Somatic Psychotherapy, and Psychodynamic Therapy. If you’re struggling with unwanted thoughts and emotions, relational difficulties, or just feel stuck in life, I can assist you with overcoming these obstacles.
Through ACT I’ve clarified my own values–compassion, acceptance, kindness, discipline, and curiosity– which guide me in session with clients. I have experience working with men’s issues, anxiety, interpersonal dysfunction, depression, and trauma.
As a devoted Christian, it is my belief that the grace, love, and truth of God compels us to freedom. At the intersection between faith and mental health, I am committed to help clients process their stories, while seeking God to work where we struggle to change ourselves. I am also passionate about spiritual formation that provides guardrails and practical disciplines for growth in mind, body, and spirit. I am happy to incorporate spiritual formation into our sessions.
Outside of session I enjoy both playing and watching sports (go Hokies!), traveling, spending time with friends, hiking, running, reading, and being by any body of water.
