Diane Marcelle, Supervisee in Social Work

Supervised by Kelsey Moffatt, LCSW

Diane is a Licensed Master Social Worker with an extensive background in ministry. For 25 years, she served as a pastor’s wife and ministry leader, roles that sparked her passion for assisting individuals in their growth, healing, and identity formation within the context of their faith. This passion led her to further her education, earning her Master’s degree in Social Work from Case Western Reserve University in 2022.

Diane brings a wealth of experience working directly with individuals, couples, families, and groups from adolescence to senior adults. She treats a range of issues including depression, anxiety, identity formation, life transitions, church-related hurt, trauma, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), and relationship issues.

Diane is a highly trained mental health professional who specializes in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), a therapeutic approach that has gained recognition for its effectiveness in treating a wide range of psychological issues. EMDR is particularly well-known for its application in addressing trauma-related symptoms, but its benefits extend far beyond that.

Through her training, Diane has developed a deep understanding of how EMDR works. The therapy involves guiding clients through a structured process that helps them reprocess distressing memories and experiences. By using bilateral stimulation—often in the form of guided eye movements—Diane assists her clients in accessing and processing traumatic memories in a way that reduces their emotional charge. This can lead to significant improvements in symptoms associated with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), such as flashbacks, nightmares, and severe anxiety

With a commitment to a strengths-based and client-centered approach, Diane uses an array of therapeutic modalities to provide personalized care to her clients. These modalities include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Exposure and Prevention Response (ERP) Therapy, attachment therapies, psychodynamic therapy, and family systems therapy. She integrates these with a biblically sensitive approach, offering a unique blend of clinical expertise and faith-based counseling.

Diane holds a profound and unwavering belief that every individual, regardless of their circumstances or past experiences, is inherently loved and valued. This conviction is not merely a philosophical stance for her; it is a guiding principle that shapes her interactions and relationships with others. She perceives the challenges and hardships that people face in life not as insurmountable obstacles, but rather as meaningful opportunities for growth and transformation. In her view, these trials and moments of brokenness can serve as catalysts for healing, allowing individuals to embark on a journey toward greater wholeness and self-acceptance.

In her practice, Diane takes a compassionate and holistic approach to support her clients. She actively encourages them to explore and identify their unique strengths, helping them to recognize the qualities that make them resilient and capable. By fostering a sense of self-awareness, she empowers her clients to embrace their identities fully, celebrating their individuality and the diverse experiences that shape who they are.

Away from her professional life, Diane finds her greatest joy and fulfillment in her family and faith, which serve as the cornerstone of her existence. For the past 33 years, she has been happily married to her husband, a partnership built on love, mutual respect, and shared values. Together, they have navigated the ups and downs of life, supporting each other through various challenges and celebrating countless milestones. Their enduring relationship is a testament to their commitment to one another and the strong foundation they have built over the years.

As proud parents, Diane and her husband have raised four grown children, each of whom has embarked on their own unique journey into adulthood. Diane takes immense pride in the individuals they have become, often reflecting on the values and lessons she and her husband instilled in them throughout their upbringing. The couple also delights in their role as grandparents to two adorable grandchildren, who bring a fresh wave of joy and energy into their lives. Diane relishes the opportunity to create lasting memories with them, whether it’s through playful afternoons in the park, baking cookies in the kitchen, or sharing stories that bridge generations.

In addition to her family life, Diane’s faith plays a significant role in shaping her worldview and guiding her actions. She actively participates in her local church community, where she finds solace, support, and a sense of belonging. Her faith not only provides her with strength during difficult times but also inspires her to give back to others, whether through volunteer work or simply being a source of encouragement for those around her.

Diane’s home is a lively and nurturing environment, shared with a beloved dog who is more than just a pet; he is a cherished member of the family, bringing companionship and joy to their daily lives. The couple also enjoys the unique experience of raising a flock of hens, which adds a touch of rural charm to their suburban lifestyle. The hens not only provide fresh eggs but also serve as a delightful source of entertainment and a reminder of the simple pleasures in life.

In summary, Diane’s life outside of her professional endeavors is rich with love, faith, and family. Her long-lasting marriage, the joy of parenthood and grandparenthood, and her commitment to her community all contribute to a fulfilling and meaningful life. Diane’s personal experiences enrich her understanding and contribute to her empathetic and compassionate counseling approach.
